Kevin Lawton und Dan Marom describe it as „Social Networking Meets Venture Financing“ (in: „The Crowdfunding Revolution”, 2010). Crowdfunding has since experienced an impressive development worldwide and has meanwhile arrived in Switzerland. Crowdfunding stands for financing of projects (including companies) by a large number of persons (“crowd”) with small amounts of money based on standardised processes and may shake the world of the traditional players in the financing and venture capital industry. Crowdfunding schemes, however, are confronted with regulatory hurdles and other challenges. This article provides some insight into certain legal aspects of this hot topic.
